Friday Fundies - Ray Comfort

It has been a long time since I've done a Friday Fundies post, so I made my way over to Ray Comfort's Blog to find a juicy quote.

Here's one from a post he made about evolution.

"The tragedy for those that believe in evolution is that they automatically discount the Genesis account of creation, which holds up perfectly under the light of honest scientific scrutiny. It informs us that God is the initial Cause of all things. He created male and female and caused every animal to bring forth after its own kind.

The theory of evolution has no explanation for the initial Cause (it is a case of "evolution-did-it" with the help of invisible sky-daddy of Father Time), nor does it have an explanation for why 1.4 million different kinds of animals, birds, fish, and insects have male and female."

Source

It's really sad seeing things like this. He sincerely believes that Genesis stands up under scientific scrutiny. I almost feel sorry for him. The simple fact of the matter is that not a single aspect of the Genesis creation myth reflects anything that has been demonstrated to be true through scientific inquiry. Things are in the wrong order, plants are made before the sun is there to sustain them, light exists before stars are there to provide it. It's pointless going through the list of everything that is wrong with Genesis, because until people like Ray decide they are actually going to honestly investigate these things, they will not listen to anything anyone else has to say.

Evolutionary theory does not even attempt to explain the initial cause, that is in the realm of cosmology, or if he is talking about the origin of life (more like the origin of replicating polymers) then it is in the realm of chemistry. What baffles me even more than his astounding ignorance about what science actually is and says despite arguing against science for over 20 years, is that he thinks the existence of male and female organisms somehow presents a serious obstacle to evolution.

A cursory glance at the Wikipedia page for the evolution of sexual reproduction would give you more knowledge on the subject than Ray Comfort who frequently spouts his imbecilic criticisms of it.

It almost annoys me that people put the effort into trying to argue with fundies like Ray, not because it makes people think that he should be taken seriously, but because fundies haven't even taken the time to learn about their own religion seriously, do you really think that they would bother learning about something like evolution properly? It's a matter of intellectual honesty, Ray has none, and because of that he deserves nothing but ridicule.

Friday Fundies: Baffling Ignorance

I tried posting last night, but the Blogger.com homepage was down for maintenance.

Here's a quote I found from the fstdt.com archive. It demonstrates quite well the mindset of the fundamentalist or true believer, who thinks they are right, and doesn't know why. This flawed thinking is also demonstrated in many atheists too, I will freely admit. Those people, though they may be atheists, they are not rationalists or skeptics. My atheism is a result of my skepticism.
Anyway, here's the quote. Enjoy!

Quote# 4243
How is it plausible that languages are evolved??????? it's not possible - evolution does not exist, the Bible says so. Can you prove what you are saying??? I don't think so because you're saying 'i'm right and you're wrong'. Science does not prove me wrong infact the majority of scientists don't believe in evolution.

Friday Fundies: Evolution!

Since I haven't posted a Friday Fundies post in months (I used to post one nearly every single week!), I thought I'd reward you with two great quotes from the FSTDT (Fundies Say The Darndest Things) archives relating to evolution.

Quote# 4101

Evolution is theory, not science, and any theory that says nothing times nothing equals everything is flawed from the outset.

From RaptureReady

Quote# 71902

Don't be bothered by all the idiots defending evolution. They have their heads in the sand and don't realise they have been brain-washed - the scientific establishment has bullied Intelligent Design scientists into silence, however there are millions of scientists who firmly believe that God created life. People have a blind un-questioning faith in evolution, it is their god, and it takes more faith to believe in evolution than it does to believe in anything else!

From HeraldSun.com.au

It always astounds me how proud these people are of their ignorance. They parrot apologists as if they are authorities, and then claim that the people who actually have some understanding of the subject are brain-washed. I used to be in the same position as them, but the cognitive dissonance eventually got the better of me. I eventually felt the neccessity to actually understand evolution. What I discovered astounded me, I had actually been the credulous idiot. I was the one who was brain-washed. Once that realisation smacked me in the face it didn't take long for me to change my position on that matter, though letting go in belief in God took significantly longer.

Friday Fundies

This is a perfect example of how religion can rot your brain, and be detrimental to society as a whole. Imagine if there was larger number of people who believe that the rapture was just around the corner, giving them the excuse to do nothing? I think the earth would become dilapidated and run down fairly quickly. It's related to the conservative Christian political view known as Dominionism, where based on a verse in Genesis, where God tells Adam that he has dominion over all the earth, the Dominionists take that as a command to rape and pillage the earth, because they believe that their god will create a new one soon anyway and destroy the old one. It's dangerous, and poisonous. People actively promoting these beliefs need to be lobotomized to prevent them from infecting others with this mind-rot of a religious/political doctrine.

Quote# 40793

(A rapture thread, this one has a bunch of folks talking about how they have no motivation because of the rapture being "just around the corner"):

I hear you on this. I have to constantly fight the feelings of "what is the use". Its like we have diagnosis of a fatal incurable disease and we have only so long to live.

Friday Fundies

Today's Friday Fundies quote will be from the Channel description from the youtube page of user 'SAUNDERSacts2618'. I came across this user because he went street-preaching with another user called TheWoodsofJordan. Jordan used to be an extreme fundamentalist Christian, who used to make videos about hellfire and so on. Anyway, a while back, Jordan left the church and became an agnostic-atheist. About a week ago, Jordan decided to get baptised into the Mormon Church, and he sold all his Metal CD's to buy church clothes. He's already left the Mormon church and is hanging out with this extremist fundie SAUNDERSacts2618.

Jordan, if you read this, which I don't think you will. I'm trying my best not to put you in the same box that you started out in, but hanging out with this guy really doesn't look good. I wish you all the best.

Here's the quote.. It speaks for itself, and all the spelling mistakes and all-caps are from the original formatting.

Jesus is God! Every knee will bow and confess Jesus is Lord!!!!
If you become a friend i will pray for you daily!also i ask that you would pray for me!Also lets keep winning souls to The True God Our Lord and Saviour Jesus. All Glory to our Father!! Praise the Lord!! Please subscribe!

Atheism:
In the beginning there was nothing, and nothing happened to nothing, until nothing exploded, and created everything. Then, the nothing that became everything magically rearranged itself for no reason into self-replicating complex life forms, that became intelligent beings that believed in God. Makes perfect sense. LOL.

Friday Fundies

This one is a quote from a thread debating the infamous creationist film 'Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed'. It's a perfect example of circular reasoning, using the bible to justify the bible, offering bible verses to 'prove' what he said, and then challenging his opponents to prove him wrong 'biblically'. It's possible to justify anything using the bible, which is to be expected since it is a compilation of many different works, by many, many authors. Fundies just don't seem to be able to grasp the mental concept that the bible isn't meant to be taken as literal truth. The truth of the matter is much more complex than their simpleton brains could possibly comprehend.

Quote# 44002

(In the Evolution Debate thread, Wayne keeps trying to prove to us "blind" people that humans are not animals "cuz the bible sez so!)

First,, the bible is the Word of God and the Word of God is Jesus Christ in the flesh....... AND it IS the beginning and the end of all matters. Want the verse that proves it or do you know it? Man is created from the dust of the ground. Show me how I'm wrong biblically.

Friday Fundies: Baby Edition

Here's a video of a baby on stage at a church babbling some nonsense and a whole church is cheering and clapping and shouting stuff about Jesus. Someone has made the effort to put subtitles that resemble the 'words' that the child is saying. The crowd seem to really be getting into the child's 'sermon', shouting out things like "Preach on brother" and "Hallelujah", "Praise Jesus" etc. I sure hope they aren't being serious, because you'd have to completely delusional to get anything meaningful out of the 'sermon'. However I've heard adult Christians say things that make even less sense, when they start praying in 'tongues'. Anyway, it's damned funny. Enjoy.

Friday Fundies!

Here's a great one from a question on Yahoo Answers 2 years ago.

Quote# 36536

Atheists are completely illogical because they only know to use reasoning and logic.

That's not logical. Should use the bible instead.

Source

I don't think this requires an explanation, as it is quite obvious that the person who wrote this doesn't have a functional brain. I have suspicions that they may in fact be a Poe, but I wouldn't put it past a mentally deficient fundy to say something like this.

Here's another quote from the same Yahoo Answers thread

"Atheists do not read the Bible. They don't believe in God. Every atheist believes we evolved from apes...Darwin's theory. We came from Adam and Eve...not Adam and Steve."

Friday Atheist Fundies

So far my Friday Fundies posts have only been from Christians, so in the interest of balance I'll do an atheist one. I definitely wouldn't call this person a fundamentalist atheist, but most certainly would call them arrogant/militant/angry/bigoted. The person I'm talking about is 'Human Ape' who commented on my post about Theistic Evolution. I removed his comments from the page, since he primarily came here to promote his blog, and is now censoring all dissenting comments on his own blog.

Here are some quotes from him.
"Most definitely Christianity is a mental illness, and unfortunately this disease is usually incurable. If a brainwashed child is still a Christian retard at age 21, he or she will always be a retard."
"By the way Christian morons, how does this heaven business work?
If I understand your cowardly belief correctly, your soul (whatever that is) magically flies up to the clouds (or who knows where) and then magically transforms itself into your disgusting dead body, except that now you're alive again, living in some magical place infested with other Christian idiots like yourselves. Jeebus must be waving his magic wand like crazy to make this bullshit work. And your magical selves live forever in this fantasy land, for trillions and trillions of years. Long after the entire universe goes extinct, you're still alive playing with your harp, bored out of your fucking mind."
From my experience trying to dialogue with him over the last day it is quite obvious that he's not interested in any kind of discussion about anything. He's not open to any new ideas and instead of taking criticism like an adult, he resorts to ad-hom attacks like this
"Wait a fucking minute. You call yourself an atheist and you think atheists have beliefs? You're worse than an atheist wimp. You're a fake atheist."
Instead of listening to my reply to that, he just censored my comments and called me a wimp again. Bravo 'Human Ape'... You just proved that you're exactly what you claim everyone else is. He's so afraid of opposing views that he censors them and then insults them.

Not only is his insult vocabulary incredibly small (so it gets very tedious very fast) but his blog is an eye-sore. It's nearly as bad as jesus-is-savior.

So, if you are mildly interested in seeing the obnoxious rants of a self professed asshole atheist, be my guest. Here's a link to his blog.

Friday Fundies

It's been a while since I've done a Friday Fundies post, so here's one!

Quote # 30307

Evolution is merely a religious belief posing as science about the origin of things. There isn't even a microbe piece of evidence to support the existence of evolution or that it has happened at any given time.

I challenge you to disprove the previous statement and find and present actual evidence that supports the existence of evolution. If you cannot prove it wrong by presenting actual evidence then by that very thing you have proven the statement to be true. That evolution is only a religious belief system not Science.

The following have already been proven false or fraudulent.

Bacteria in a lab test (False)
Life in a test tube (False)
The Pepper Moth (fraudulent)

Do not refer to websites as your answer but put it in your own words. Any one can refer to websites.

Source

This kind of statement/challenge is fairly common among creationists/fundies. They'll ask you to provide evidence for something and when you do they'll start spouting phrases like "Evolution is a religion!", "Atheists have no morals!", "Why do you hate god so much?". They don't seem to care about real evidence, and I really don't know why.

All-in-one Fundy Websites

There seems to be a trend among fundies to make websites that have nearly their entire website all on one page. They tend to have really spastic formatting with big bold letters right next to really small phrases, in odd colours, with pictures everywhere on a monotonous background. It is virtually impossible to take a look at the entire page without getting some kind of eye-injury.

This is a perfect example of these sites. http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/

Nearly every kind of Christian paranoid-delusion imaginable is all on this one page.
  • 9/11 Conspiracies
  • Bible Translation Conspiracies
  • Communism fear-mongering
  • Muslim Fear-mongering
  • Atheist bashing
  • Rock music paranoia
  • Abortion propaganda
  • Lots of rhetoric about Satan
  • General propaganda
  • Catholic bashing
  • Delusional fantasies about the anti-christ
  • Demonizing Charles Darwin
  • Evolution bashing
  • Creationist propaganda
  • More conspiracy theories
  • Noah's ark myths
  • Hellfire and Brimstone
  • Gay Bashing
  • Propaganda relating to drugs and alcohol
The list of insanity could go on for a while longer but I think you get the point. These people are fucking crazy.  I might continue to do posts about these kinds of people, not in any kind of serious critique, because they certainly don't deserve anything like that. I'll just find the most insane statements from them, post them on here and just laugh.

Friday Fundies

I thought I'd get back on track with my regular updates and do a Friday Fundies. I dissected an entire article by fundies last week so I thought I didn't need to do one (but I did think about it). Anyway, heres another quote from FSTDT that shows a very obvious disconnect between the original post and the religion-ravaged brain of the fundie.

Quote# 72804

In response to:
"I don't get it. Why do many many on this board diss Earth Day? I helped volunteers plant nearly six thousand oak trees last Saturday at the Forest Preserve by my house. "

"But does planting trees help bring people to Christ? It's like going to third-world countries to feed the hungry. It doesn't do a starving man any good to keep him alive for another day if he's doomed to hell anyway. It doesn't do anyone any good to plant trees for people if they haven't heard about Jesus. The future of this earth is destruction....You don't "Bring people to Christ" with inanimate objects. He is knowable, but unless that tree becomes paper, and eventually a Bible, it will have no value in expressing how to know The Creator who made the tree."

So Stupid I Almost Couldn't Believe it.

Just when I thought humanity couldn't offer anything more idiotic than Reptilian conspiracy theorists and Flat Earthers, I was linked to an article by Creation Ministries International titled "Atheism: A religion"

The opening sentence is where the first failure is detected. They are asserting something that is demonstrably false. This is what they wrote.

"Atheism is the belief that there is no god. According to the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy:
Atheism is the position that affirms the non-existence of God. It proposes positive belief rather than mere suspension of disbelief.”"
You would be hard pressed to find someone who actually holds this position. This is generally termed Strong Atheism, in constrast to Weak Atheism, also known as Agnostic Atheism. I've done a post about this before so I won't go too much into detail there. I also can not find any information about the author of this passage from this 'Encyclopedia' his name is Craig Edward.

In the first few paragraphs of their article it's quite easy to see that they are hell-bent on labelling atheism as a religion. They discuss a bit about the troubles with defining religions, and I skim read that part as it wasn't very interesting and was only providing a bit of background to their stupidity. They then have several sub-headings which are the supposed definitive characteristics of a religion with which they try to use to label atheism a religion. They are: narrative, experiential, social, ethical, doctrinal, ritual and material.

Narrative
"Evolution is an explanation of where everything came from"
Really. Are you fucking kidding me? They are using evolution as an example of  'narrative' in atheism? To start off with, evolution has nothing to do with atheism. Sure, most people who are atheists also accept evolution, because it is a scientific fact. Yes, FACT. Evolution happened, and still happens, we have observed evolution happening, and have evidence that it has happened in the past, MOUNTAINS OF FUCKING EVIDENCE. Then, their use of the term evolution is even more retarded. Evolution is not an explanation of where everything came from. Evolution is not related to the big bang. Evolution is not related to abiogenesis, Evolution does not account for the formation of stars, galaxies or anything else except the diversification of life. This feels like something straight from a Kent Hovind video, the convicted fraudster-creationist.

Experiential

This part really has nothing to do with the rest of the article it seems. They go off on some tangent about the meaning of life, and quote from The Humanist Manifesto as if it's the Bible of atheism or something. They fail to mention in this part, possibly intentionally (the devious little bastards) that most, if not all credible atheists with any kind of influence object to darwinism as a social construct, so any attempt to misconstrue acceptance of evolution as scientific fact as some kind of twisted narcissistic fantasy is merely shit-slinging on their part.
"On the other hand, Atheism requires “faith” (using their own definition) that the laws of chemistry, physics and biology were once violated and life arose from non-life via chemical evolution."
This occurrence is not called chemical evolution, and if these ignorant bible bashers had ever read a science book they would know this. It's called Abiogenesis, and I suggest anyone trying to argue against it to learn a little bit about it before trying to dismiss it as easily as these people would like to. This is literally the only time the origin of life is mentioned in their article. Abiogenesis does not violate a single scientific law.

Social

In this part they are simply trying to say that Evolution is a religion, and they quote Michael Ruse as their final proof that evolution is a religion. What they don't understand is that there is a difference between functioning as a replacement for a set of beliefs and actually being a religion. The people that Ruse is describing in their quote of him are certainly a minority among evolutionary biologists,  and Ruse does not regard evolution as a scientific fact or the study of it as a religion, as is demonstrated in this quote from Michael Ruse.

"Today's professional evolutionism is no more a secular religion than is industrial chemistry."
Doctrinal

They really don't have a leg to stand on here, so they're desperately grasping at straws  nothing. They mention the Humanist manifesto again as if that is some kind of proof that atheism is a religion. CMI think that because a group of people got together and wrote a document outlining why humans should be good to each other that atheism is a religion? If you're having trouble seeing the connection between the two then don't worry, I can't see any connection either. I'm ruling this out as a blatant non-sequitur. In fact most of what they've said so far has basically been irrelevant to what they're trying to prove.

Ethical

This is where they get outright nasty. They dropped the H bomb on us. They blame evolution for what Hitler did. They basically are saying that evolutionists cannot be moral without taking their morals from other religions. I really don't have the patience to try and write out a serious response to these allegations, because they're so fallacious and childish, that I'm just going to resort to using two words as a rebuttal.
Fuck you.

Ritual

Since there are no rituals at all in atheism, they just make shit up. Claiming that because some atheists celebrate birthdays, secular holidays, the 150th anniversary of a seminal scientific work, that makes atheism a religion. Sorry CMI, that doesn't fly. You fail.

Material

Just as I have, as they went down their list of definitive characteristics of religions trying to prove that atheism was one, they ran out of things to say.  Their last point on the material aspect of atheism is wild speculation mixed with some more shit-slinging. Their article carries about the same intellectual weight as a monkey in a cage throwing its feces around. The article never deserved a response to begin with, and I almost feel ashamed that I even attempted to reply to it.

Conclusion

This article by CMI has shown me what I already knew to be true, that creationists are not interested in any kind of real discussion. They are completely disingenuous, devious, deceitful, deranged, delusion, dangerous quacks. It has gotten to the point that I am unable to laugh at their ignorance anymore, but rather stare in horror and immediately cover my face with my palm.

Friday Fundies

Here's a good one. This is a perfect example of what many creationist types do when confronted with data that contradicts their beliefs, they resort to making shit up. Fundies have a special talent, an ability to melt your brain with their monotonous array of inanity. I think I should point out if any fundie stumbles across this, that both the Flood story and the Tower of Babel are considered by intelligent theologians as being mythical stories. The point behind their conception by the authors of the Old Testament was to convey the message behind it, not to tell a literal account of true events.

Quote# 70794

[In answer to a question as to why there are no water stains in cave walls if there was a global flood]

It's likely the sea stains were erased just after the Tower of Babel. Sea stains are a form of language and it would have been confounded like everything else.

how are they considered language? well they convey meaning and anything (that is everything) conveys meaning in the universe. So it really does not matter if you do the research or not, if sea stains aren't found it's due to CONFOUNDATION not because they were never there.

This quote I'm about to show you completely baffles me how ignorant and bigoted whoever wrote this is. I cannot comprehend their thought processes, and in a way I'm glad I can't.

Quote# 63609

Because a beast has four legs and one gender[, i]f you put two men together, they have four legs and two penises, still one gender, that’s a form of bestiality. If you put Eve and Eve together, two vaginas, that’s still one gender, that’s a form of bestiality.

Friday Fundies

The following fundie quote is potentially hazardous to your health, so please approach it with caution. It is a quote from the notoriously bigoted republican fundie who is known as Ann Coulter. This quote is from the year 2000, where it seems she proudly wore her dominionist beliefs.

Quote# 65705

The ethic of conservation is the explicit abnegation of man's dominion over the Earth. The lower species are here for our use. God said so: Go forth, be fruitful, multiply, and rape the planet -- it's yours. That's our job: drilling, mining and stripping. Sweaters are the anti-Biblical view. Big gas-guzzling cars with phones and CD players and wet bars -- that's the Biblical view. Producing oil isn't so bad for the environment anyway. During World War II, our boats were going at breakneck speed to get oil to England (what with the war and all). There were oil spills everywhere. Half the beaches in the United States were slathered in oil. Six weeks later all the birds were back.

This one is a quote from the infamous YouTube fundie known as NephilimFree

Quote# 65028

The Adapa Epic, Hindu Vedas, Epic of Gilgamesh, Mesopotamian and Babylonian steles, and Egyptian hyroglyphs are mythologized literature. Genesis is not. There is a? great difference. For example, Gilgamesh traveled to the underworld inside the earth in a boat seeking the secret of imortality. This is clearly mythology, as we know it is unsound in the real world. The Bible is not a a collection of this type of unsound events. The Bible is the true history, the others are distortions.

Friday Fundie Quotes

Quote# 65087

The fact is evolution has never been proven, even though scientists like to think that. There are many holes in evolution and logic supports the bible. The bible is not just a book of dos and donts,? its the word of God through our Lord Jesus Christ. It's only arrogant fools that cant see this.

Not going to go into detail mocking this quote, as I've probably covered all these points before. It was from a YouTube video mocking creationism, and a heated debate erupted in the comments section.
